Mail Order Bride
Thursday, February 22, 2001 I got an awesome comic book today. Well, actually it's a graphic novel, but I always feel so conspicuous when I say that. Anyway, it's called Mail Order Bride  and though I haven't finished it yet, I'm already loving it. The art work is brilliant, with sketchy yet facile line work. And did I mention this book is huge? It's 261 pages long and printed on paper that is an inch shy of 8 1/2 by 11. Some of the pages have upwards of 20 panels. It's dense. And the story is really engaging. It's about this paunchy 40 year old comic book nerd virgin who orders an Asian bride to "complete his life". She comes to Canada to live with him, but she's totally unlike the steriotypical Asian girl he was hoping for. For one thing she's tall. She also has no accent. And she has opinions and interests beyond his limited scope. I can't wait to go home so I can read more!
