My Dog Can Beat Up Your Dog
Friday, February 24, 2006

My Dog Can Beat Up Your DogI wish her ears were up in this picture. Ah well, better luck next time. It's a crappy snapshot anyway, since I had the camera set to auto, which means it shoots everything at the highest ISO setting possible and blows out the highlights. And of course I wasn't wearing lipstick. When will I ever learn?

You see that thing Lulu is sitting on? That's my desk chair. Yes, the thing I plant my ass on every day as I work. Can you believe it? It's a crappy wooden Windsor chair we got at Ikea a hundred years ago, with a pillow lashed to it so my butt doesn't go numb. Ya think I need to take a trip to Staples? I suppose I should get some ink cartridges as well.

I bought a sweet chair from them for just $40, on sale and all. Staples is cool as long as you don't mind the style of the chair. Of course the best ones, if your lucky, are at the salvation army. I think I furnished most of my place by shopping at the salvation army :D

Hmmm....Salvation Army, eh? I should give that a try.

The problem I have with office chairs is that I don't like wheels. I'm short so I need to rest my feet on a box when I'm sitting at my desk, but if the chair has wheels I spend all day pulling myself back to the desk.

My chair is a Staples chair. When I started working more out of the house, I had two upgrade requirements. Better processor and bigger hard drive? Nope. A window air conditioner (it was warmer weather) and a new chair.

Up until then, my chairs had always been in the "college decorative" mold, meaning, whatever I could get my hands on without paying for it. First it was some old kitchen chair ("I'm not spending money on a chair to use at a desk!") and it got upgraded along the way to more "real" office furniture, but still stuff that I got as hand-me-downs or when people were getting rid of their old chairs.

I decided I had earned the right to feel comfortable while I sit and work (I can totally understand your need to place a pillow on that chair!). So I saw an ad for a Staples chair that was on sale and made the trip. I still bought a relatively cheap chair, because I still have a little bit of that "a chair's a chair" mentality. But it serves me well and it spins around and tilts back. So I can kick my feet up on the desk and prentend I'm an important executive when I take phone calls. ;-)
