Guess Who Turned 34 Today?
Monday, April 10, 2006

Guess Who Turned 34 Today?, originally uploaded by Angela..

Yes, it's almost over, but still, it was my special day. I celebrated by dropping off my laundry, waiting 45 minutes in line at the post office to send a package back to Land's End and grocery shopping for what amounted to $30 worth of cookies and milk. Then I met Kyle at Ben & Jacks on 44th Street for a succulent dinner of vevety filet mignon.

When we first started dating, Kyle was under silly the impression that I was one of those anemic-vegetarian-alterna-chicks. I don't know what gave him that idea. I mean, I'm Italian. I grew up eating meatballs and sausage. I disabused him of that assumption rather quickly, to our mutual satisfaction. Some of the best meals I've had with Kyle involved steak, eaten at pricey steakhouses. Tonight was just another meat debauch to add to our growing list of accomplishments. After gorging ourselves on delicious, delicious beef, cottage fries, onion rings and peas (gotta have some green in there or I would feel too hedonistic) I topped it all off with a hot fudge sundae covered in a pillowy cloud of real whipped cream.

We start our new diet tomorrow. It's almost bathing suit season, for God's sake!

Yeah, it probably was the "alterna" part that had him maybe thinking that way. Often alternative-types like to spread their alternative thinking across the board, including what they eat, and you tend to see, I think, a lot of vegetarians and vegans in those circles.

So, welcome to 34. I've been living in "downtown 34" for half-a-year now. I've got a great little story that ties right in with your 34 thread...

I'm not really much of a MySpace participant, but last night I couldn't sleep, so I was surfing around on MySpace, specifically looking to see if I could find anyone I knew from my past. You know, just for curiosity. So what I did was I searched under the old high school, and to eliminate all the 17-year-olds that I couldn't possibly have ever know, I set the age range to 33 to 37. That 34, 35 bracket, in particular were the ones that really caught my eye, because they're the people I most likely would know. Well, I did see a few people I was able to identify, and it kept me entertained for quite a while. So, anyway, while working off my list, there was, you know, an "Angela," age 34 there. But the thumbnail next to the list didn't load, so all I had was the name and age. I though, "Wow, my age...who could this possibly be?" I started thinking of all the Angelas I knew, but I wasn't coming up with anyone who I thought it might be. I totally didn't think of you because I was thinking of people I knew BACK THEN, and I didn't know you back then. So, in an effort to find out who it was, I command-clicked the link (I always open my pages in new windows when I'm working off a search list), and a new window popped up, which was to bring me all the data. BUT... MySpace was running very slowly and the page didn't load quickly enough for my impatient-self So, I moved on and went back to my list, letting the page load in the background. And then I forgot all about it.

So I went along visiting different pages, and, like, a half-hour later, after I forgot all about this elusive 34-year-old Angela, I started closing up all these stray browser windows on my screen and all of a sudden--there you were, peering over your glasses at me! I was like, "Whoa! I know her!" My immediate reaction was to think it was this site, and I was like, "When the hell did I open the TRIPPYswell blog among all this? Am I losing my mind?" But then a second later, I realized it was a MySpace page and I remembered I had been looking into a 34-year-old Angela some 200 clicks ago.

OK, so...maybe that story is not so exciting after all. But it did happen, and I feel it would be remiss not to tie it into this "34 post."
