Just Dreamy
Tuesday, September 12, 2006 I have a new shopping website obsession. It's called Sock Dreams and it sells--yes, you got it--socks. But not just any socks. Sock Dreams specializes in over-the-knee socks and thigh highs, with a heavy concentration of striped socks. I used to wear OTK's in high school. I had three pairs of heathered wool cable knit OTK's in brown, burgundy and olive green. I used to wear them over tights, since they were a bit itchy. I remember being complimented (while wearing them as part of a strange baby doll dress/mary jane outfit) by a teacher I didn't even have. She said how great it was that I "did my own thing". Sometimes I wore black or white thigh highs when I'd go out dancing, sometimes with a garter belt, sometimes without. Occasionally I'd wear one white and one black at the same time. I used to call that my "One Legged Look", since it was hard to see the black leg in murky club lighting. The ultimate in stockings, the kind with the seams up the back, were also a favored look. In college I had a pair of black and white mini-striped OTK's, which were the height of goth chic. I'll have to dig up a picture of me wearing them. There's a good chance I'll be pouting in it. I'd given up on OTK's years ago in favor of knee socks, which are also a favorite of mine, because the problem with OTK's is that they never stay up. So, anyway, I found this sock site from a link off some other site and I was immediately hooked. I love love love their socks! I bought a whole bunch of them, I'm afraid. Wtf does a thirty-four year old woman need striped over the knee socks for? I don't know. I just thank God I don't work somewhere with a dress code. And the best part is that they sell something called "sock garters" which are basically adjustable strips of elastic that--YES--hold your socks up! Fancy that. They have a good selection of DreaM Stockings (their house brand) OTK's for $6-$16. They also sell third party brands and other styles of socks, from anklets to tights. They even sell socks with toes, but those just freak me out. I don't think I'd like the feeling of having all my toes separated like that. My toes enjoy hanging out together. The site is semi-fetishistic, but I'm not bothered by such things, and the proprietor clearly states in the FAQ that they don't sell worn socks. This is a pretty silly topic, but I don't care. I love my new socks. And the kicker? No shipping charges. Now if I only had more skirts to go with them. posted at 9:07 PM . link to this post . 2 Comments:Far from silly! Those socks are awesome!
