The Door
Saturday, March 13, 2010 ![]() I received a copy of "The Door" by Jacklyn O'Hanlon as a gift when I was a kid. It's a really weird little story about a Rachel, a misfit, and her distrust of the freakish junk peddler who rides around the neighborhood charming the local kids with his truck made of doors and boxes full of glass eyes. Little do the townsfolk know that he kidnaps the gullible kids and *steals their eyes*. I shit you not. Is it any wonder I graduated from this to Stephen King? I love this cover. It seems to be watercolor with colored pencil. Rachel's hair is wonderful and natural looking and the flip side shows a couple of ghostly eyeless kids. The art is done by Diane deGroat and "The Door" was published in 1978. I still have a lot of the books I read as a kid, but I lost this in one of our many moves. It took me years to find the call number at the Library of Congress (I didn't have an author's name to work with) and even longer to find a used copy. It's a little freakish how much she resembles me now, eh? posted at 1:13 PM . link to this post . 0 Comments: |
