Mac Nerd
Saturday, March 24, 2001

Die hard mac idiot that I am, I pre ordered OS X and waited around in my pjs for half a day for the Airborne Express delivery man to show up. I wisely decided to install it on my iBook first, rather than screw up my new G4. Wise move, Angela. Os X is going to take some getting used to. Apple went and changed things so much I don't know if I like it. Sure, it looks fab, all shiny bubbles and all, but it's going to take my brain a while to adjust to all the changes. I mean, there is no chooser any more! And I don't seem to be able to make a mini network between my G4 and my iBook any longer. I set the mini network up yesterday, but alas! It's already not working. Oh well, such are the trials of a Mac nerd.

I Hate L.A.
Saturday, March 17, 2001

So. I've decided that I hate L.A.. No big surprise there, eh? I guess I'm just way too East Coast. All we've done since we've been here is drive to and from Disney, get lost, have meetings at the Disney TV Animation Studio. The only time I went anywhere else was last night when we met theKatbot writers at the Beauty Bar for some drinks.

Today we go to Santa Monica. My traveling companion has some meetings there and I will while away the hours wandering around looking for some thing to buy for Kyle.

Pain in the Neck
Wednesday, March 14, 2001

I found out what the hole in my throat is. Can you guess? I bet not. It's (drum roll please) a canker sore. It's huge and as my doctor duly noted, it's "very painful". No shit. So he gave me a prescription for a tube of some stuff I need to put on the sore (remember, it's on my tonsil. Some tricky rigging was in order to get the medicine down there) and also Vicodin. Oooookkkaaayy.

"It's very, very painful. You can take some Vicodin, it will make you feel stoned, okay?" my doctor said.

Okay! So I quickly ran to Duane Reade and got my Vicodin (40 tablets!! What was he thinking?) and the tube of ointment.

I was directed to put the ointment on before bed, so last night I got in my pjs and then the maneuvering began. With a large Maglight in one hand and a medicine covered q-tip in the other, I swabbed the sore on my tonsil. Then I kept my mouth open while the stuff hardened. I didn't know that was supposed to happen. As soon as I closed my mouth and swallowed, the gaging started. Whose brilliant idea was it to adhere a lump of rubbery dental paste to one of my gag reflexers? I immediately puked up my partially digested dinner. I continued to wretch and puke until I expelled the offensive matter from my throat.

So much for the cure. I'll just have to wait it out.

Oh, did I mention that this throat ulcer is the result of stress? Yes -- stress. I need to do some meditation. Ugh.

It's Wrong, I Tell Ya
Tuesday, March 13, 2001

The hole in my throat is getting worse. At least it looks a lot worse. Frankly, it looks wrong. Oh so wrong.

My doctor's appointment is in a half hour. I wonder what he'll say? What kind of foul ailment am I laboring under? Why do I feel perfectly all right other wise? Perfect, except for the disturbing hole in my throat.

Wow, look at this weird site I just found! That url is the shit.

Sore Throat
Monday, March 12, 2001

I have a sore throat. I've had it since Friday and it's really annoying. I feel like I have a piece of gravel stuck in the back of my throat. Yesterday it felt like someone burned a hole in my tonsil with a hot poker. When I look down there I see a white hole on my left tonsil. Isn't that just awful?

Did I mention I want to go home and play with my new computer?

Must I?

My new computer just came! Woohoo!! Now, even though it's only 11:40, I want to go home and play with it. Maybe it's because it's only 11:40 that I want to leave. Whatever.

I'm such a baby. I love getting new toys.

I am so relieved. I got all my freelance work done this weekend. Now I am free of stress and can leave for L.A. with relative ease.

This is where I'll be staying. Pretty hip, eh? They have DSL in every room. I swear, it's an internet addict's wet dream.

My traveling companion just reminded me to bring a bathing suit. Must I? Ugh, the thought of seeing my pasty yellow hide stuffed into an ill fitting j. crew swimsuit in early March is enough to give me dry heaves.

Short Notice
Wednesday, March 07, 2001

Next week I'm going to L.A.. How's that for short notice? This trip will be fun. We're going to meet with the Disney writers and work on some preliminary stuff. It should be real chill. The only problem is the timing. This is the worst possible time for me to go anywhere. I have so much freelance work it's insane. I'm doing ten spot illos for a teen magazine, a full page illo for a regular client, and a one page, six panel comic for another teen mag. My brain is going to explode.

Really.

I need to chill. Maybe I'll take some Kava when I get home. Or maybe a nap. I dunno. Either or.

Btw, I read a really good book the other day, Ghost World by Dan Clowes. It was weirdly familiar, maybe because it reminded me of the relationship I had with my best friend from high school. It's worth the dough.

Changes
Monday, March 05, 2001

I changed my order. Sheesh. Now I have to wait a little longer for the computer to come, but it will have two processors. The only programs I use that utilize two processors are Photoshop and Soundjam, but soon OS X will be out and solve that problem.

Your Call is Important to Us

I'm having second thoughts about the computer I bought. I'm presently on hold with Apple to change my order. I'm going to get a the dual processor unit. I got some advice from an extremely smart guy here at work and he said go for it. It's only $300 more. Why not?

Ugh.

I hate making large purchases like this. Dropping that much dough is very nerve racking.

I'm still on hold. They said the wait would be about 19 minutes. Oh well, only 8 minutes left...

In Computer Years
Sunday, March 04, 2001

I ordered a new computer yesterday. The one I use now is so old, at least in computer years. I've had this one for four years. Four years! Imagine that! It's one of the first G3s. You know, the beige ones. It's not even a tower, it's a desktop. I put off getting a new one for a long time since now I need to get new peripherals to go along with it. My scanner is, get this, six years old! Really! It cost me $500 when I got it way back then. The one I ordered from Outpost last night was $200 and it can kick my old scanner's ass into next week. The only piece of equipment I have now that I don't have to replace is my printer. Everything else has to go. Damn USB ports.

Gag
Friday, March 02, 2001

I got my blogger server fund stickers in the mail yesterday. Thanks guys!

I've been crafting a contract to fax to prospective freelance clients before I start doing any work for them. Isn't that a novel approach? I've finally gotten to the point in my career where I feel comfortable calling the shots. I'm tired of getting screwed by unscrupulous publishers. I downloaded a template for my contract here (click where it says "letter of agreement". thanks G.A.G.!

I went to dinner last night with my Aunt Jeanne and my Grandma. I miss them. It's awful, since they live quite near me, but i've been remiss in visiting lately. I'm a bad girl.
